DriveScrubber works within Windows, and cleans unwanted data from your primary hard drive or partition, your flash drive, your USB hard drive, and even your digital camera.

Deleting a file removes the reference to that file, but not the file itself. Space occupied by the file's data is marked as "free space," and unless the data is overwritten, it remains on the drive, as does evidence of the source file.

Even reformatting a hard drive is not enough to erase the data on it. Formatting removes file allocation information, and it performs other housekeeping functions for data storage. But it does NOT erase data.
